There’s one role that will always reign above the rest for Josh Hartnett.
Though the dad of four’s latest character in Trap is one that features him becoming a villain, the actor—who welcomed his kids with wife Tamsin Egerton—is open to switching it up when it comes to future roles.
“If someone were to offer me a movie that my kids could watch, I would take it in an instant,” he told E! News in an exclusive interview. “But because of the way Hollywood works now, they see me in a different light, and I don't know if I get those roles now. We'll see.” (For more with Josh, tune in to E! News tonight, July 23 at 11 p.m.)
“But if something comes along,” he continued, “in an animated world or something that's made for children, I would definitely want to do that for my kids. I would love for them to be able to come to the premiere.”
And especially since, as Josh points out, his character in Trap—though also a dad, seems to be a serial killer police have been on the hunt for—isn’t one that’s quite considered kid-friendly. However, it’s a role that he was well, thrilled to play.
“It’s supposed to be a really fun ride with unexpected twists,” Josh explained of the movie out August 2, “but also a characterization that is unlike hopefully other things you've seen out there before. And this character was such a blessing to take on because there's nothing else like him. I had such a fun time making this film.”
And amid having such a fun time within his return to the spotlight, Josh is also grateful for those praising his resurgence.
“It's extremely gratifying that people are interested in what I'm doing,” he told E!. “I mean, we don't make movies for ourselves, we make them for an audience. As much as I like to challenge myself, I also want the audience to want to go on that ride. So, it's extremely gratifying that people are liking what I'm doing right now.”
Catch Josh in action when Trap premieres in theaters August 2.
